How long is the summary?
Usually 200 to 400 words: short enough to reread before a class, long enough to cover every main idea in the document.
Can it summarize a whole textbook?
It works from the first 40,000 characters of a document, roughly one long chapter. When a file is longer than that, the summary page says so. For a full book, upload the chapters one by one and you get a summary of each.
Summary or study notes: which should I use?
A summary is a short read-through of the main ideas. Study notes are a structured outline with headings, key terms and formulas, built to revise from. Both come from the same study pack, so you can have both.
Can I use it on the free plan?
Yes. A summary draws on the same monthly AI allowance as everything else on your plan. On the free plan a long PDF is read from its first pages; paid plans read further into the document.
